sweet Cat rescued after five days under

A cat named Cleo is recovering at home after being trapped underground for five days during **Storm Éowyn**. The 15-year-old Bengal was discovered in the foundations of a block of flats in Dundee after concerned residents heard her cries. Scottish SPCA officers used a camera to locate Cleo, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service worked to free the exhausted animal.

Animal rescue officer Stephanie Smillie shared, “We gave her lots of cuddles, a big drink, and some food, and set about trying to find her owner.” Thanks to the power of social media, Cleo’s owner was successfully located, and the beloved pet has now been reunited with her family. The heartwarming rescue highlights the dedication of emergency services and the community in saving animals in distress.

After carefully tearing up some floorboards, rescuers discovered a tiny trap door leading into the building’s foundations from the kitchen. With the help of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, they were finally able to reach Cleo and free her from her underground ordeal.

Stephanie Smillie, the Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer, recounted the heartwarming rescue: “She was exhausted, but after lots of cuddles, a good meal, and a big drink of water, she was doing much better. We scanned her for a microchip, only to run into another challenge. The chip’s details were outdated, and it listed an address in England! But we weren’t ready to give up. Thanks to the power of social media, we managed to track down Cleo’s owner, who turned out to live just a few streets away. This is a rescue mission we’ll never forget.”

Cleo’s owner, Arlene Connor, was overjoyed to have her beloved pet back home safe and sound. She shared, “Cleo had been missing for four weeks, and with the weather being so cold, I feared for the worst. We had posted missing appeals for Cleo on social media and were overjoyed to receive the phone call that she had been found. When she first came home, she was always by my side and needed extra reassurance. She’s now getting better and is eating and drinking well. I’m taking her to the vets for a check-up, and whilst there’s a long way to go until Cleo’s back to normal, I’m just so glad to have her home.”

The rescue highlights the incredible teamwork between the Scottish SPCA, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and the local community, as well as the power of social media in reuniting lost pets with their families. Cleo’s story is a testament to hope, perseverance, and the love between a pet and their owner.
